MINING ENGINEERING DRAINTUBE FT/PE

DRAINTUBE FT/PE - Cover for mine tailings facilities

Use

After operation, the tailings storage areas are covered by a final impermeable cover system. This is important for the protection of the environment by preventing the evaporation of tailings into the atmosphere or the infiltration of liquids (leaching) and oxygen (oxydation) of the ores. DRAINTUBE® FT/PE provides rainwater drainage and impermeabilization of the final cover with a single product and a single installation.

This geocomposite results form the combination of DRAINTUBE® FT with a geomembrane, which may have a textured underside to increase cover stability.

Connection to the collector via the Quick Connect system

The Quick Connect system directly connects the mini-drains from the DRAINTUBE® FT/PE to the main collector drain. This allows for the replacement of the collector trenches when site conditions make their construction difficult. It also permits to better control the outflow. In the event of gas drainage, it generates negative pressure in the entire system.

Benefits

  • Water barrier in the cover thanks to the overlapping of the geomembrane
  • High drainage capacity under heavy loads
  • Improved collection system and phreatic surface control
  • Reduced risk of dike failure and better use of tailings to build stable slopes
  • Reduced number of collectors or finger drains needed
  • Easy installation with a single product to unroll
  • Cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution as it replaces granular layers
